Timing Belt Service by Tri-Valley Automotive – Dublin, Ca.
Cars that are equipped with a timing belt should have this replaced at around 90,000 miles. These are considered wear items, meaning that they wear out and the manufactures require their replacement at certain mileage intervals, usually 90K-105K miles.
This isn’t something that should be postponed very long. If the timing belt broke, at the very least, the car would strand you someplace, or worse, cause major engine damage. Now, it’s not very likely that it will break right at 90K, in fact it’s highly unlikely. The belts are very rugged and will last quite a while longer, but is it something that your willing to take a chance on, considering the possible consequences? Doing the complete timing belt service could run several hundred dollars, but repairing the engine could run several thousand.
When we estimate for a timing belt service, the parts we replace include the timing belt, water pump, new coolant, the front crankshaft seal, the timing belt tensioner and idler pulleys and the drive belts for the alternator, power steering and air conditioning. Replace all these parts and you should be good to go for another 90,000 miles.
Many models of Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, some BMW and Volvo come equipped with a timing belt. If you are not sure if your car has one, and you’re approaching the magic mileage, give us a call and we’ll tell you and provide a quote over the phone.
